HIDE – the values of a historic apartment building for modern living

Finding an apartment in the city is often easier and simpler than finding people to go to the movies with, play a board game with, or have a glass of wine with on a weekday evening. HIDE has managed to do both of these things in one go. In a historic tenement house near the Old Town, you can rent an apartment, work with others, go to the sauna, or challenge your neighbor to a PlayStation match . And all this without giving up your private space. Sounds too good to be true?

Perhaps you have just moved to Riga or have started a new phase in your life that also involves a new place to live. You have a job, an apartment, a grocery store, a pizzeria nearby. In theory, everything is fine. Only one seemingly insignificant thing – boredom in the evenings, sometimes even a feeling of loneliness. The creators of the HIDE concept are no strangers to this problem. That is why we offer the opportunity not only to rent an apartment where you can close the door and enjoy peace, but also common areas, a sauna and events, about which all residents of the building are regularly informed in a common house chat. You don’t have to wait until you make your first friends at work or hope for a lucky coincidence in a bar. The opportunity to meet people is right here, at home. Of course, participation is not mandatory, so there is no reason to worry about unwanted forced socialization. It is precisely this balance that is the basis of the HIDE concept. Your own space, your own life, but people and opportunities to meet – right next door.

The same apartment building, only 120 years later.

HIDE is located in a historic tenement house near the Vanšu Bridge and the Old Town. It is a bit ironic and beautiful at the same time that the building, which served as a tenement house about 120 years ago, still fulfills its original function today. The requirements for comfort and lifestyle have changed, but the idea has remained the same. The historical aspect has been seriously taken into account in the approximately 5,000 square meter building, as the building is a historical monument. Authentic windows, a courtyard, wooden elements and other details give the house a character that cannot be created by ordering everything from large manufacturers. The interior is modern, but not sterile. Even the furniture for the apartments – tables and chairs – is made to order, in collaboration with local designers and manufacturers.

11 million euros have been invested in the project, and the attention to detail is visible not only in the presentable common areas, but also in solutions that make the everyday life of each resident more comfortable. There is no attempt here to transform a historic house into a modern, stylish and pompous one. It has remained as it has always been, just adapted to how people live today.

From 16 square meters to an apartment with a view over the rooftops of Riga.

HIDE is designed for people with different lifestyles and views. Someone comes to Riga to work for a couple of months, someone moves to Latvia for a longer period, and someone is simply looking for a rental apartment where they can live comfortably. Therefore, apartments can be rented both for a shorter period – from one to three months – and for a long term, for a year or more.

The smallest studio apartments are 16 square meters in size. It is a compact private space for someone for whom space is not a priority, but it is important to have everything you need at hand. The small studio apartments do not have a washing machine, as the space is much more useful for living. Instead, the building has a shared laundry room. The most complete apartments, on the other hand, are as large as 70 square meters, with windows facing the park and the beautiful rooftops of Old Riga.

Tribus real estate agent Damians Bondarenko, describing the property, is laconic: ‘ ‘Not only the property itself is well thought out here, but also the lifestyle it offers. Architecture, concept and community building – a completely different approach to the development of rental housing in Riga.”

Some apartments also have balconies, which is a real plus. The rent is fixed and utilities are already included. So you can plan your monthly budget without unnecessary utility bill surprises, especially during the cold months of the year.

At the end of the working day, you can choose a sauna, board games, or PlayStation.

HIDE shared spaces are designed to make everyday life and social life comfortable and cozy. A coworking space is available to work outside the apartment, change the environment, or meet other people. For those who are not satisfied with work emails and daily duties, there is a separate PlayStation room with a game console and board games. It is clear that the best way to get to know your neighbor is not to ask him about his workplace, but to invite him to play FIFA. There is also a sauna and a modernly equipped gym. The renovated historical beams, which have been preserved and included in the interior, create a special atmosphere. They are not hidden behind plasterboard, but have become one of the most characteristic elements of the room. A cinema is currently being built, where you can watch movies together or follow sports competitions.

A key role in the life of the HIDE community is played by the house manager, who organizes events and ensures that residents have the opportunity to get to know each other. Activities take place on average every third day, and you can also invite your guests to them. This model works especially well for those who come to Riga from abroad. A new city, a new job, an unfamiliar environment – everything may seem exciting at first, but after a while, simple, everyday socializing can be missed. There is a small shop in the foyer where you can buy the necessary things without leaving the building. Yes, even in slippers and a bathrobe.

Nearby is a park, Old Riga and the Quiet Center with restaurants for different tastes, as well as tennis courts. HIDE’s historical environment, various apartments and common areas allow everyone to build their own way of life – whether it be a quiet life with work from home, active socializing or a combination of both. And if you’re lucky, you will find not only an apartment in Riga here, but also your next business partner, best friend or love of life.
